Therapy Services

Therapy benefits everyone. That’s why we provide professional individual, family, and group therapy to girl-identified and gender-expansive youth ages 10-18. Our strengths-based, goal-oriented approach helps youth feel supported, self-actualize their strengths, and practice new skills for coping with difficult feelings or challenges in their lives.

Why Ophelia’s Place?

We’re Qualified
Our therapists have master’s degrees or are interns in master’s degree programs for Social Work or Couples and Family Therapy, and have significant experience working with adolescent girls and their families. Several of our therapists are bilingual and/or bicultural, and reflect the communities we serve.

We Consider Lived Experience

OP therapists bring an intersectional lens to honor the lived experiences of youth we serve. We recognize that youth from historically marginalized communities may experience more barriers to care, or encounter treatment that doesn’t consider how oppression impacts their social and emotional wellness. Our waitlist prioritizes those youth, and youth who have experienced recent traumatic events to better ensure they receive the timely care they need.

We’re Accessible
Accessibility is extremely important to us. Therapy services at Ophelia’s Place are provided virtually or in-person regardless of income level. We have sliding-scale payment options available so no youth is turned away due to financial barriers.

We Listen to What Youth Need
Ophelia’s Place does not offer mental health or psychiatric evaluations, assessments, diagnoses or labels, medication prescriptions or adjustments, mandated services, adult therapy, or accept payments via insurance, including OHP.

We did 3 months of counseling, and a weekend ‘Mother and Daughter Workshop.’ The counseling helped us make some headway, and the workshop helped us find some common ground ...Our relationship has become more resilient. A year ago we showed up at Ophelia’s Place, in tatters. You helped us heal and knit a relationship that can withstand the wear and tear of mistakes. I am so grateful for that.

For individual therapy, youth meet one-on-one with one of our trained, caring therapists in a confidential, secure environment, either virtually or in-person. And because we are a youth empowerment organization, youth must consent to participation. That means we never provide mandated treatment. In addition to their consent, youth under the age of 13 must also have caregiver consent in order to participate. Depending on each youth’s individual circumstances, needs, and treatment goals, families will typically be engaged through treatment to a degree.

Individual Therapy

Family therapy at Ophelia’s Place is youth-centric. When family members are invited into therapy sessions, they will have the opportunity to learn ways to support their child’s treatment goals, work on communication skills, and strengthen family relationships. Our caring, dedicated, and highly trained therapists have formal education in family therapy and are trained in relational work.

Family Therapy

Group therapy is a valuable way for youth to discuss their concerns in community and feel supported by peers and friends, while receiving guidance from a trained, unbiased therapist. During therapy groups, our therapists lead guided discussions and interactive skill-building activities, and offer creative expression opportunities that help youth work through their big feelings in a fun, tangible way.

Group Therapy

Therapy groups change each term, so check out what we’ve got coming up.

The challenges of being a girl and growing up in a complex, demanding world can be as daunting for caregivers as it is for their kids. This may cause significant breakdowns in communication and make it difficult to navigate or nurture that critical relationship. Our Caregiver-Daughter activities are intentional opportunities for girls and the most important adults in their lives to work together to strengthen their communication skills, learn how to better honor each other's boundaries, and be generally more supportive and compassionate with one another.  It can also be a great companion to the other activities we provide through our After & Out-of-School Programs.

Queer Space is our weekly professional and peer support group for members of the LGBTQIA+ Queer community of girls and trans, non-binary, gender nonconforming, and gender fluid youth. This safe and intentional space helps youth manage related challenges and stress with pride, compassion (for themselves and others), and support. It’s a great way for queer youth to find and build community in a space that welcomes them fully just as they are and supports their ongoing growth and well-being.
