Empowering girls’ lives through confidence & community.

At Ophelia’s Place, we do a lot of things, but at the center of it all, is one goal: to build a better, safer, and more equitable community for girls and youth to grow up and thrive in.

Our robust, community-centered, and strength-based offering focused on building youth and community allies includes:

  • Safe, welcoming, and nurturing girl-only spaces at our physical locations in Eugene, Junction City, and Albany. Here girls can enjoy:

    • A variety of afterschool programming and activities

    • Access to supportive adults who can provide the resources they seek to face everyday challenges with confidence and optimism

    • Fun workshops on everything from baking to coding

    • Help with homework

    • Games

    • Open and honest peer-to-peer conversations

    • And more

  • Strength-based individual and group therapy available for all girl-identified youth as well as trans boys, and their families

  • Girl Empowerment Groups including BIPOC and Queer spaces

  • Guidance on a wide range of topics for parents, teachers, and peers delivered through in-person classes, at our physical locations and in schools (school presentations also serve boys)

  • Robust and research-based professional development and anti-oppression training for youth-serving leaders and organizations

  • Training for the next generation of service providers through our direct-service internship program

  • Plus, we always meet girls and families exactly where they are, when and how they need it—virtually or in person, at our physical locations, out in the community, and even in rural areas.

Our Vision

All girls and youth in our community will have the foundation, connection, and trusted allies they need to discover themselves, rise above challenges, and flourish.

Our Mission

Ophelia’s Place is dedicated to empowering girls to thrive in a complex world. By providing resilience and growth-focused education and support to girls and the adults who have an impact on their lives, we help build communities that are better equipped to lift them up.

Our Core Values

Quality: We are committed to ethical practices that effectively provide the highest level of quality service.

Community: We have a community based on trust, teamwork, accessibility, and the desire for social change for the purpose of improving our larger community.

Health: We believe in maintaining individual and organizational health through personal development and empowerment.

Each Piece of the Whole: We celebrate the uniqueness and personal expression of each girl. We help her to identify her own individuality and her own voice. We help her to see her own independence as well as her interdependence within her larger community. At Ophelia’s Place, we celebrate multicultural populations, diversity, and inclusiveness within our community.

History

When she created Ophelia’s Place in 2005, founder Rosaria P. Haugland’s vision was to provide intervention at an early point in a girl’s life to give her an opportunity to develop supportive relationships and strengths that will lead to her long-term well-being. Early interventions can help prevent tragic and costly outcomes such as domestic violence, low educational achievement, early pregnancy, or drug and alcohol abuse. Instead, girls can develop strong self-esteem and self-worth, learn critical thinking skills to overcome difficult and stressful times, discover their voices, and feel confident in who they are and who they become as they grow.
