Girl Rising is an innovative feature film about the power of education to empower girls - and the world. The film follows nine girls from all over the world on their journey to education. They face arranged marriages, child slavery, gender-based violence, and other heartbreaking injustices. Despite these obstacles, the brave girls offer hope and inspiration. By getting an education, they're able to break barriers and create change.
International Day of the Girl Child – Oct. 11 – was established in 2011 when the United Nations adopted a resolution to raise awareness about the discrimination and violence experienced by girls, and to advocate for their rights. Through scholarships, mentor programs, advocacy, and girl empowering organizations like Ophelia’s Place, the community can help ensure every girl has access to education and support regardless of her background or geographic location.
