Why we are here.

We help girls prepare for emotionally healthy lives.

We help girls enhance their emotional health, manage life's challenges, and learn about themselves. We also offer guidance for parents, teachers and peers, including boys. We do this with in-person classes, at our locations and in schools. Becoming more emotionally resilient and flexible not only helps girls, strong girls help us all.

How we help…

OP provides a range of services and support to meet girls and families where they are, when and how they need it. Services are available in person or virtually, and individually or as a group. Offerings include after and out-of-school workshops and activities; school girl empowerment groups; presentations to students; and strength-based therapy.

Girls cannot overcome challenges alone. (No one can.) Because of that, we offer guidance for parents, teachers and peers, including boys. That’s where our trainings for parents, teachers, and in-school programs come in. We also provide professional development training to youth-serving organizations.

Our Vision

All girls in our community will be safe, valued, and empowered.

Our Mission

Ophelia’s Place is a prevention-based organization dedicated to helping girls make healthy life choices through empowerment, education, and support.

Our Core Values

Quality: We are committed to ethical practices that effectively provide the highest level of quality service.

Community: We have a community based on trust, teamwork, accessibility, and the desire for social change for the purpose of improving our larger community.

Health: We believe in maintaining individual and organizational health through personal development and empowerment.

Each Piece of the Whole: We celebrate the uniqueness and personal expression of each girl. We help her to identify her own individuality and her own voice. We help her to see her own independence as well as her interdependence within her larger community. At Ophelia’s Place, we celebrate multicultural populations, diversity, and inclusiveness within our community.

History

When she created Ophelia’s Place in 2005, founder Rosaria P. Haugland’s vision was to provide intervention at an early point in a girl’s life to give her an opportunity to develop supportive relationships and strengths that will lead to her long-term well-being. Early interventions can help prevent tragic and costly outcomes such as domestic violence, low educational achievement, early pregnancy, or drug and alcohol abuse. Instead, girls can develop strong self-esteem and self-worth, learn critical thinking skills to overcome difficult and stressful times, discover their voices, and feel confident in who they are and who they become as they grow.
